Mahomes, Patrick (1995-…), is an outstanding quarterback in the National Football League (NFL). He has gained a reputation for being an athletic and inventive passer.
Mahomes began his NFL career in 2017 as a backup quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. He became a starter in 2018. That year, he threw for over 5,000 yards. Mahomes led the NFL in touchdown passes, becoming only the third player ever to throw 50 in a single season. He was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) for that season. Mahomes led the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LIV (played in 2020) and was named the MVP for that game. In 2022, he led the NFL in both passing yards (5,250) and passing touchdowns (41), and won the MVP award for that season. Mahomes also won two more Super Bowl MVP awards by leading the Chiefs to victory in Super Bowl LVII (played in 2023) and Super Bowl LVIII (played in 2024).
Patrick Lavon Mahomes II was born on Sept. 17, 1995, in Tyler, Texas. He is the son of the Major League Baseball (MLB) pitcher Pat Mahomes. The younger Mahomes played football at Texas Tech University from 2014 to 2016. In high school and college, he also excelled at baseball. He was drafted by the MLB Detroit Tigers in 2014, but he declined the offer in order to pursue college football. In a 2016 football game against the University of Oklahoma, Mahomes threw for 734 yards, tying a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) record. He also set a single-game record for total offense, at 819 yards. Mahomes left college after his junior year to begin his NFL career. The Chiefs took him as the 10th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft.
