Malone, Post (1995-…), is an American hip-hop musician. He gained widespread fame for several popular singles in the late 2010’s, including “Rockstar” (with 21 Savage, 2018), “Psycho” (with Ty Dolla Sign, 2018), and “Sunflower” (with Swae Lee, 2019). Malone is known for his vocal range, prominent tattoos, and flashy teeth, once adorned with gold and then diamonds.
Austin Richard Post was born on July 4, 1995, in Syracuse, New York. He was raised in Dallas, Texas. He began using the stage name Post Malone as a teenager. When he was 16, Malone released his first rap mixtape, Young and After Them Riches, on the music-sharing website Audacity. In hip-hop culture, a mixtape is an independently produced recording, often distributed for free. After graduating from high school in 2013, he attended Tarrant County College in Fort Worth, Texas, for one year before moving to Los Angeles, California.
Malone released his first single, “White Iverson” (2015), on the music-sharing website SoundCloud. It went viral (spread quickly over the internet). He met the American musician Kanye West at a celebrity event and later appeared on West’s song “Fade” (2016). Malone released the single “Go Flex” on his mixtape August 26 (2016). Also in 2016, Malone opened for the singer Justin Bieber on tour. Later that year, Malone released his first studio album, Stoney. It included “White Iverson” and featured collaborations with several other artists, including Bieber and the vocalists Kehlani and Quavo.
Malone released his second album, Beerbongs & Bentleys, in 2018. It reached number one on Billboard magazine’s “Billboard 200” chart. The album included the hits “Better Now,” “Psycho,” and “Rockstar.” Malone’s duet with Swae Lee, “Sunflower,” was featured on the soundtrack for the animated motion picture Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). “Sunflower” topped the Billboard “Hot 100” chart, helping Malone to cross over into pop music stardom. He released multiple “Hot 100” chart singles in 2019, including “Circles,” which topped the chart; “Goodbyes” (with Young Thug); and “Wow.” These singles appeared on his third album, Hollywood’s Bleeding (2019), which also reached number one on the “Billboard 200” chart.
