Austin FC

Austin FC is a professional soccer team in the United States. FC stands for football club. Soccer is called football in much of the world. Austin FC competes in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. The team plays its home games at Q2 Stadium in Austin, Texas. The American actor Matthew McConaughey is a co-owner of the team.

Austin was awarded an MLS expansion team in 2019. The team played its first MLS game in April 2021. The team’s inaugural roster included veteran left-wing Cecilio Dominguez of Paraguay and veteran forward Danny Hoesen of the Netherlands. Austin had a previous team, the Aztex, that competed from 2008 through 2015 in the United Soccer League (USL). The USL is a professional soccer league in North America. Another team, Austin Bold FC, played in the USL Championship, the second-tier minor league just below MLS, from 2019 to 2021.
