Titanoboa

Titanoboa was a giant prehistoric snake. It lived during the Paleocene Epoch, about 66 to 56 million years ago. Its closest living relatives are modern boas.

Titanoboa measured up to 46 feet (14 meters) in length and 3 feet (90 centimeters) in diameter at the thickest point. It weighed about 2,500 pounds (1,100 kilograms). The structure of the teeth and jaws of Titanoboa suggest that it ate fish.

Paleontologists discovered fossils of Titanoboa in northern South America, in what is now Colombia. The region was covered by tropical rain forests during the Paleocene Epoch. Titanoboa likely hunted large fish in the rivers that drained these ancient rain forests.
