Wallen, Morgan (1993-…), is an American country singer and musician. Wallen first gained fame as a contestant on the television music competition “The Voice” in 2014. His debut album, If I Know Me, was released in 2018.
Morgan Cole Wallen was born May 13, 1993, in Sneedville, Tennessee. He started singing in church at a young age and began learning violin when he was five. Wallen continued to study music, picking up guitar and piano, but aspired to become a baseball player. After an elbow injury ended Wallen’s chances of pursuing a baseball career, he returned his focus to music.
In 2014, Wallen auditioned for “The Voice.” The musicians Usher and Adam Levine both mentored him during his run on the show, but he was eliminated in the playoffs. Wallen settled in Nashville, Tennessee, and there he was signed to Big Loud Records. In 2016, Wallen released the song “The Way I Talk.” Wallen had his first hit in 2017 with “Up Down,” a collaboration with the duo Florida Georgia Line. The song became the lead single on If I Know Me.
In January 2021, Wallen’s second album, Dangerous: The Double Album, was released to positive reviews. In February, however, video footage of the singer using a racial slur appeared online. As a result, his recording company temporarily suspended his contract, his talent agency dropped him as a client, and some radio stations stopped playing his music. By October, however, Wallen had returned to performing. In March 2022, Dangerous: The Double Album won album of the year at the Academy of Country Music Awards. That same month, the album broke Billboard magazine’s record for most weeks at the number one slot of the “Top Country Albums” chart, having spent 51 weeks there.
