Delta Lea Goodrem was born on Nov. 9, 1984, in Sydney, New South Wales. She began acting in television at age 7. At 15 years old, she started her musical career after signing a record deal with Sony Music Australia. Goodrem appeared on the popular television series “Neighbours” for several years from 2002 to 2022. The role brought her broader national attention. For her performance, she won a TV Week Logie Award, one of the Australian television industry’s most prestigious awards, in 2003.

Also in 2003, Goodrem released Innocent Eyes, which became one of the best-selling debut albums in Australian history. Shortly after the album’s release, Goodrem was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a cancer that mainly affects the lymph nodes. While undergoing treatment, Goodrem wrote and released a second album, Mistaken Identity (2004). Both Mistaken Identity and her third album, Delta (2007), debuted at number one on the Australia Recording Industry Association (ARIA) music charts.

Goodrem’s albums outsold those of all other musicians in Australia from 2001 to 2010. In 2010, she was named the ARIA artist of the decade. Her album Wings of the Wild (2016) also debuted at number one on the ARIA charts and featured the hit single, “Wings.” In 2021, she released another studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Dreams, and an accompanying book by the same name.

Goodrem has also been recognized internationally for her philanthropic efforts. In 2020, she wrote a single, “Let It Rain,” in response to the 2019 Australian bushfires. Bushfires are wildfires common throughout Australia due in part to the country’s hot and dry climate. The singer pledged to donate all proceeds from the single to the Red Cross for bushfire disaster relief. In 2020, Goodrem represented Australia in the internationally broadcast One World: Together At Home benefit festival. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, musicians performed from various studios, and the festival was streamed online. The festival raised over $100 million for health care workers. Goodrem was named a Member of the Order of Australia in 2022.
