Charlotte FC is a professional soccer team in the United States. FC stands for football club. Soccer is called football in much of the world. Charlotte FC competes in the Eastern Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. The team plays its home games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Charlotte was awarded an MLS expansion team in 2019. The team played its first MLS game in February 2022. The team’s inaugural roster included forward Karol Świderski of Poland and goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina of Croatia. Charlotte had a previous team, the Eagles, that competed from 2011 through 2014 in the USL Pro soccer league. The USL Pro, later renamed the United Soccer League (USL), was a third-tier professional league. Another team, the Charlotte Independence, started in 2015 and plays in the USL League One, a third-tier professional league.
