Mitchell, Latrell (1997-…), is an Australian rugby player. He plays in the National Rugby League (NRL) as a fullback. A fullback is a rugby position that defends the backline. Mitchell is known for his aggressive style of play and his scoring ability.
Latrell Goolagong was born on June 16, 1997, in Taree, New South Wales. He is of Australian Aboriginal heritage. He is a member of the Birrbay and Wiradjuri peoples. His father, Matt Mitchell, played professional rugby for the South Sydney Rabbitohs. Latrell Mitchell adopted his father’s last name as a teenager. He grew up in Taree playing rugby for several junior teams.
Mitchell made his NRL debut in 2016 with the Sydney Roosters. He was the leading points scorer on the team that year. With Mitchell, the Roosters won the Premiere Cup in 2018 and 2019. Mitchell moved to the Rabbitohs in 2020.
Mitchell was first chosen as a member of the Indigenous All Stars team in 2017. He also represented New South Wales in the 2018 State of Origin series, an annual competition between Queensland and New South Wales. He has been selected for both teams numerous times since his debut. He was forced to sit out the 2022 All Stars match as part of a suspension for performing an illegal tackle in an earlier contest.
