Booker, Devin

Booker, Devin (1996-…), is an American professional basketball player. Booker plays shooting guard. He stands 6 feet 6 inches (198 centimeters) tall. Booker gained attention breaking scoring records while playing for the Phoenix Suns in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Devin Armani Booker was born on Oct. 30, 1996, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. His father, Melvin Booker, played professional basketball from 1994 to 2008, including two seasons in the NBA and several seasons on international teams in Italy, Russia, and Turkey. Booker began high school in Grandville, Michigan, before moving to Mississippi. He played basketball at Moss Point High School in Mississippi, graduating in 2014. Booker scored 2,518 points at Moss Point, becoming the leading scorer in school history. As a highly ranked recruit, Booker chose to play at the University of Kentucky in 2014.

During the 2014-2015 season at the University of Kentucky, Booker did not start a basketball game. After his freshman year, he entered the 2015 NBA draft. The Suns selected Booker as the 13th overall pick.

In March 2017, Booker scored 70 points when the Suns played the Boston Celtics. He became the youngest NBA player ever to score more than 60 points in a game. In 2019, Booker became the youngest player with consecutive 50-point games.

Booker was selected for NBA All-Star teams in 2020, 2021, and 2022. He played on the United States team that won the gold medal in men’s basketball at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games. The 2020 Summer Olympics were postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Booker and his teammate Chris Paul led the Phoenix Suns to the NBA Finals in 2021. During the tournament, Booker broke the record for most points scored by a player in his first playoffs, previously held by Rick Barry, with 601 points. The Milwaukee Bucks defeated the Suns in the Finals.
