Cavoodle

Cavoodle is a mixed-breed dog that is a cross between a cavalier King Charles spaniel and a toy or miniature poodle. It is also known as a cavapoo or a cavadoodle. It belongs to a group of mixed-breed poodle crosses whose names all end in oodle. This group includes the labradoodle (a Labrador retriever cross) and the golden doodle (a golden retriever cross). The cavoodle is one of the most popular dogs in Australia.

Cavoodles have thick coats with a wide variety of colors, including white, black, brown, or tan. Their coats have a curly or wavy texture. Because they are bred from smaller poodles, cavoodles are also small, with heights ranging from 10 to 15 inches (25 to 38 centimeters). They typically weigh 12 to 26 pounds (5 to 12 kilograms). As is common with poodle mixes, cavoodles shed (lose) fur less often than other dog breeds. This trait has made cavoodles popular with people who are allergic to animal hair. Cavoodles tend to be gentle and intelligent.

The exact origin of the cavoodle is unknown. The breed became popular beginning in the 1990’s, when Australian dog breeders experimented with breeding poodle mixes. The cavoodle is considered a hybrid or designer breed. As such, the breed is not recognized by major kennel clubs such as Dogs Australia, the American Kennel Club, or the United Kennel Club.
