Morant, Ja (1999-…), is an outstanding point guard in the National Basketball Association (NBA). For an explanation of positions in basketball, see Basketball (The players). Morant plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. He stands 6 feet 2 inches (188 centimeters) tall.

Temetrius Jamel Morant was born on Aug. 10, 1999, in Dalzell, South Carolina. Morant’s father played basketball in college and trained his son from a young age. Morant played basketball in high school and attended basketball camps. At one camp, he was noticed by a recruiter for Murray State University.

Morant attended Murray State for two years. In his sophomore year, he averaged a National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) record of 10 assists and 24.5 points per game. Morant received awards and recognition as the best college-level point guard in the United States.

The Grizzlies selected Morant with the second overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. During the 2019-20 season, Morant averaged 17.8 points and 7.3 assists per game and was named the Rookie of the Year. Morant continued to improve over the following seasons. For the 2021-22 season, he was named the Most Improved Player. In the 2022-23 season, he averaged 26.2 points and 8.1 assists per game.

In March 2023, the NBA suspended Morant for eight games after he brandished a firearm in a nightclub. In June 2023, the NBA suspended Morant for 25 more games for a similar incident.
