Gauff, Coco

Gauff, Coco (2004-…), is an American tennis player. Gauff, who turned professional when she was 14, is known for her skillful defensive play.

Cori Dionne Gauff was born on March 13, 2004, in Delray Beach, Florida, north of Miami. Both her parents were athletes. Gauff began to play tennis at a young age. She received training from Serena Williams’s tennis coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, and competed in several youth tournaments. In 2017, Gauff placed second in the U.S. Open girls’ singles championship. The next year, Gauff won the French Open girls’ singles championship. In 2018, Gauff began to compete in professional women’s tournaments. In 2019, she defeated Venus Williams in a match at Wimbledon.

Gauff continued to improve her ranking and record in professional tennis. In 2021, she reached her first singles quarterfinal at the French Open. In 2022, Gauff and her partner Jessica Pegula won the Qatar Open and the Canadian Open for women’s doubles. That year, Gauff also reached the women’s singles final at the French Open. In 2023, Gauff won the U.S. Open Tennis Championships for women’s singles, her first victory in one of the four Grand Slam tournaments.
